west coast green 2009 / furnicology

today i went with my two friends jenn & dan (also designers) to the west coast green conference at fort mason. the turn out was impressive and the event was laid out very well but i have to say we were a little disappointed at the fact that there was a lack of new ff&e related products. very helpful if you are a builder, contractor, architect or interior designer that focuses on residential homes. there were endless amounts of solar companies, insulation options & energy efficient products but a definite lack of innovative furniture and finish options. don't get me wrong-i was very happy to see so many manufactures developing products that are environmentally friendly but better yet to see so many people excited about it! i wish we had more time to listen to the some of the speakers but it was not in the cards this year.

one thing that did get me excited is a great design resource furnicology. we talked with Meghan Feild Lopez, the creator of this site and learned more about how it got started and what it's hoping to grow into. the site has been around for 9 months and it's an excellent reference for interior designers who are specifying green furniture. it is efficient & easy to use and i think everyone should get on the network and support the site so it can reach it's full potential.

all and all it was fun and worth the trip.
